The same country gives you very different days. A morning among the columns of Karnak has nothing in common with an afternoon under sail on the Nile, or a night in the Western Desert where the only sound is the wind.

Browse by the kind of day you want, rather than by the map.

Four kinds of day

Sightseeing

Temples, tombs and museums with an Egyptologist - seventeen of our journeys include days like this. What changes is not the list of sites but the hour you reach them and how long you stay. Being at the Valley of the Kings before the coaches arrive is the single thing that changes a Luxor day most, which is why the West Bank morning starts early.

Nile cruise

Days where the boat does the moving: Esna, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Philae, and long stretches with nothing to do but watch the bank. Nine journeys include them, either under sail on a dahabeya or on a five-star ship.

Desert

Four journeys go into the desert. That covers a six-hour afternoon in the Eastern Desert behind Hurghada as well as a night in the White Desert, where the limestone formations stand in open sand and it can drop to single figures after dark between November and February.

Yoga and wellness

One journey: a retreat on a dahabeya, with practice twice a day on deck and temples in between. The group stays small because the boat is small: twenty guests at most.

Days that do not fit a category

Some of what people remember most is not on this list. A morning on a farm on the West Bank, where you cook with the family rather than watch them. A village stop from the dahabeya that is not a scheduled visit. An evening on the Corniche in Aswan with nothing planned. These are part of the journeys rather than products: the farm day is the one we sell on its own, because enough people asked.

If you know what kind of day you want but not where it should happen, write to us and we will say where it works best - and when.
